This class is focused on the vast and wonderful world of handbuilding! We will be meeting every wednesday for 3 hours over 6 weeks, starting on Wednesday, September 25th.
This class is open to beginners as well as people with experience who want to refine their skills and learn new techniques. We will be touching on several handbuilding techniques, using handmade tools and formers and learning a variety of decorating techniques. Handbuilding is not only fun, it is so varied that you can do almost anything with the different techniques.
Week one:
- Pinch pots, making a moon jar
- Demo: Mug, plate, and moon jar
Week 2:
- Coil building a plant pot / vase
- Demo: plant pot + it’s dish
Week 3:
- Slab building: mugs, plates, using formers (slump molds) and stamps.
- Demo: Butter Dish
Week 4:
- Guided free time, mini demo of student’s choice
Week 5:
- Decoration techniques on greenware (unfired, still damp pottery) and on bisqueware (fired pottery)
- Demo: decoration with coloured slip and underglaze on greenware. Decorating with underglaze & glaze on bisqueware
Week 6:
- Last class! Pot luck & glazing party
Students will be able to come back around 2 weeks after the class ends to pick up their treasures <3
