This class is for a slightly more intermediate student who has taken a class with me or others before :) In this class we will focus on refining skills and combining different techniques. I love everything hand building and want to share how versatile these techniques can be! The class takes place one evening a week for 3 hours over 8 weeks.
Week 1:
Slab building: how to make and use templates. Making forms that arent just cylinders. Using stamps, texture for handbuilding. Making a lidded jar that fits well.
Week 2:
Slab building part 2: making larger forms - planter or pitcher,
Week 3:
making a box with kurinuki technique (hollowing out and cutting)
Demo: using the kurinuki technique to make a lidded house for a tea light or incense
Week 4:
Open studio class, bring a project and I will help you bring it to life
Week 5:
Decorating with underglaze: on raw clay and on bisque ware
mishima technique, scrafitto
Week 6:
Last class! Pot luck & glazing party
* If there are pieces unfinished by the last class, students will have the opportunity to come into the studio to finish their work for a final 2 hour supervised session with me during the week from 10am-6pm on a weekday while I am in the studio working.
Students will be able to come back around 2 weeks after the class ends to pick up their treasures <3
